Through its owners, Midgard Infra provides access to one of Norway’s largest terrestrial fibre-optic networks, extending across 30,000+ kilometers and connecting more than a million homes, businesses, and data centres. Our cable system serves as a new digital highway to and from the Nordics, forming a vital part of the region’s digital foundation with 18 to 48 Terabits of capacity per fibre pair and transport speeds of up to 800G.
Midgard Infra’s two wholly owned subsea cables are NO-UK, connecting Stavanger and Oslo to Newcastle (UK), and Skagen Fibre West, linking Larvik to Hamburg (Germany). The network also includes an extensive metro network in Oslo and links major hubs across Northern Europe, such as Hamburg, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Brussels, London, and Dublin. Additionally, the system ensures high-capacity connectivity to the Americas via the Havfrue (AEC-2) trans-Atlantic subsea cable.
The NO-UK Cable System is an open cable system providing eight dark fibre pairs and up to 216 Tbps of total capacity, connecting Stavanger (Norway) with Newcastle (UK). Designed for maximum scalability, the system supports terabit-class transport, recently demonstrating line rates of 1.6 Tbps per wavelength using the latest generation of coherent optical technology.
NO-UK forms a critical part of Midgard Infra’s broader European network, connecting Norway directly to major digital hubs such as London, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Hamburg.
Connecting the NO-UK system directly to the Norwegian capital, our fully operational Stavanger–Oslo fibre highway delivers highly scalable, low-latency access to key data centres. Spanning 485 kilometers across Southern Norway, this diverse terrestrial route offers robust capacity starting at 144 fibre pairs, designed to effortlessly scale alongside our customers’ growing data demands.
Skagen Fibre West is a 170-kilometer repeaterless submarine cable connecting Larvik (Norway) and Hirtshals (Denmark). The system features 48 fibre pairs and delivers over 1,920 Tbps of total capacity, with a designed round-trip delay (RTD) of approximately 1.7 ms between the landing stations.
In Larvik, the cable integrates directly into Midgard Infra’s extensive terrestrial network, enabling seamless, low-latency connectivity to major Norwegian data centre hubs such as Oslo, Stavanger, and Rjukan.
The Verena system will span approximately 630 kilometers, connecting Scarborough on the east coast of England to Esbjerg in Denmark. Named in honor of the pioneering British engineer Verena Holmes, the 16-fiber-pair cable is scheduled to be Ready-for-Service (RFS) in the fourth quarter of 2028.
The state-of-the-art system will provide a massive design capacity of 512 Tbps, significantly strengthening digital resilience and route diversity between the United Kingdom and the Nordic region.
